SuperCoach Herald Sun's advice review - Gold Coast Suns

Every year the Herald Sun releases the little black book giving advice on who to buy and who to avoid. I will point out some of the ones they overlooked and errors they made while also offering my own suggestions. Of course I will praise the decisions that I agree with and why I agree with them.

Gold Coast Suns

The inaugural year for the Gold Coast Suns can be considered two things, firstly a development year and a success. Although the Gold Coast finished 2011 in last place the put games into their youngsters and managed to win three games when most people predicted they will go without a win this season. In 2012 they come back bigger, stronger and a year older. We should see improvement from the Suns unfortunately they will not be as fantasy relevant as they were last year due to the fact they have very few rookie priced players.

The Star
Gary Ablett - Always wanted to yell 'Duhhhh' at something obvious and this may be it to be honest. What more to say is there about this guy? Can play and dominated in the wooden spoon side. Will continue on his merry point scoring way.

Bank 'Em
Nathan Bock - Best defender for the Suns by a mile and it is not even close. Reads the play well and is can kick (kicking efficiency at 80%). All of this translates to him scoring well. The only downside is that he will miss the first two rounds but if you ride them out he will be a unique pick or potentially an upgrade target during the season.

David Swallow - I do not disagree with him being a champion in the future but this year is a development year. Could surprise and jump up to 95 ppg but by the end of the season ideally you want midfielders who average 115 ppg. Can play and will be a future automatic pick for SuperCoach but this year it feels as if he was added to make up the numbers.

Suggested Player
Michael Rischitelli - Everyone knows he can play and does not get the same focus that Ablett does. If his kicking retention rate into the forward line improves, which it should with the forwards having another year under their belt he can go up to 105 ppg. Very handy has a 6th midfielder with his durability.

Buy 'Em
Josh Caddy - Can play and cannot disagree with this pick. Very unlucky last year with injuries but with a full season under his belt and showing what he is capable of he could have a great year. Same price as Morabito and I am more confident him scoring well than Morabito due to the coaches and their philosophy (McKenna has to play kids).

Kyle Horsely -  If he is upgraded jump on. Will play a similar role to Daniel Harris through the flanks at either end and being in the midfield rotations. In the WAFL last season he averaged 24 disposals and three tackles. Minute he is upgraded work him into your team.

Bury 'Em
Josh Fraser - As a former Collingwood player I love him but as a SuperCoach prospect this season I have to put a line through him. Currently he is the oldest player on the Gold Coast list and at the age of 30 that means his SuperCoach days are over. To go with that is the rise of Zac Smith's game time and the fact there are a plethora of ruck options available. Unfortunately this means Fraser has to be put out to pasture.

Sam Day - Taken pick 3 in the 2010 draft he started at an inflated rookie price as a result he went down in price as a rookie. No matter what way you look at it, that is an awesome effort - for the wrong reasons. Thankfully for him he is a key position player which allows him a bit of leeway in terms of development. Consider him in a few seasons time but not this year.
