SuperCoach Herald Sun's advice review - Richmond

Every year the Herald Sun releases the little black book giving advice on who to buy and who to avoid. I will point out some of the ones they overlooked and errors they made while also offering my own suggestions. Of course I will praise the decisions that I agree with and why I agree with them.

Richmond

Richmond pretty much had a carbon copy of last season, promising a great deal and delivering very little. They finished 12th dropping games to Gold Coast and Port Adelaide over the season. If Richmond want to make the 8 this season they need to win those games. Last season Richmond put more games into Dustin Martin, Trent Cotchin and a host of others and it saw those younger players show more of what they are capable of but if they are to make finals then those players will need to continue their improvement and show they are consistent and the real deal.

The Superstar
Brett Delidio - This bloke is a bona-fide champion (of Supercoach). Granted he cops some flack due to the performances of the Richmond side but he must be considered by all people who are serious about winning the 50k or doing well. He will average over 100 and is a legitimate chance to be the top ranked defender at the end of the year. Expect him to get more midfield time this season which can only be a positive. Another point he is extremely durable missing very few games over the last five seasons. If he is not in your initial squad expect to bring him as early as possible.

Bank 'Em
Chris Newman - The captain of Richmond who gets no love in fantasy circles due to the above player. Make no mistake he is always a great option. Granted he will not have as many big games as Delidio but he can play and he can score well average close to or over 95 across the past few seasons. Expect him to back that up again this season and strongly consider bringing him into your side after the bye or if you want to start with him as you consider Delidio overpriced.

Trent Cotchin  - Last season he had a breakout year and looks set to back it up. He will be the best player at Richmond and is every chance of overtaking Delidio as their number 1 player in terms of Supercoach. If you are looking for a cheap M4 of M5 you cannot go wrong with Cotchin. Also if he starts like a house on fire you will have to strongly consider bringing him in.

Buy 'Em
Dustin Martin -The most hyped player over this preseason and with good cause. Last season he showed what type of player he can be and this year Virtual Sports have added him to the list of midfielders that have now been giving that Mid/Fwd MPP. Expect him to be a lock in the forward line and considering what he has shown this preseason it is wholly justified. He should crack the 100 mark in terms of average and if not it would be considered a disappointment.

Steven Morris - Will get games early on and with the lack of options for backline rookies this year shapes up as a vital pick. There is some question over his scoring ability but as long as he averages a solid 60-70 it is very hard to complain about this. Expect him to play a lot of games early and if so jump on.

Bury 'Em
Angus Graham - Richmond have no premium rucks which means that you get bargain basement options. Although Graham will get games at some point during the year is he really worth it? If you were looking to free up some money options like Hale and Kreuzer are safer in that respect but also you could free up up money with picks like Redden (Port), Giles (GWS) and Stephenson (Geel). In all not worth and many better picks out there.

Jake King - 'Push up' is a cult hero at Richmond and he is a dream for a coach. A real coach, not an SC team coach. Sadly the role King plays is extremely negative in that he negates small forwards ignoring the ball. To top that off he has a knack of getting suspended due to his fiery temper so expect him to miss a few. Although a bad pick, I have to suggest another player due to reasons below. We love you Kingy as a player, but not as a Supercoach prospect.

Suggested Player
Ivan Maric Copy and paste what I said about Graham but more importantly I want to talk about his haircut. It is the worst haircut I have seen. I  have a no mullet policy when I pick my Supercoach team and so should you, especially considering how bad of a mullet it is.
