SuperCoach Herald Sun's advice review - North Melbourne

Every year the Herald Sun releases the little black book giving advice on who to buy and who to avoid. I will point out some of the ones they overlooked and errors they made while also offering my own suggestions. Of course I will praise the decisions that I agree with and why I agree with them.

North Melbourne

North Melbourne last season won the games they should have comprehensively but then lost the games they should have by a similar margin. Last season they won very few games against the top 8 sides while dropping next to no games against sides that finished outside of the 8. This lead to them missing the 8. In 2012 North Melbourne have greater expectations on them to at least make the 8 and with the natural improvement that should come from them, missing this benchmark will mean the season can be considered a waste.

The Superstar
Andrew Swallow - Highly underrated and because of that he will make an excellent pick and point of difference. The new North captain averaged close to 110 last season and if he becomes more consistent (raises his floor score) he will become a 120 point player. Jump on since he will be unique and nobody will go near him for whatever reason. Unique and proven performer.

Bank 'Em
Brent Harvey - He just keeps going and honestly, I do not know how. Way past the fantasy cut off age of 30, he keeps scoring and keeps being a top player. Will average 90+ and at some point you will have to consider bringing him in as an upgrade target. Proven performer and an elite player for a long time now it does not look like Harvey will drop off in the foreseeable future.

Todd Goldstein  - Last year’s breakout ruckman this season comes with an interesting conundrum. Namely where does he fit in with McIntosh back in the mix. Personally I have him ahead of McIntosh and should assume the number 1 ruck role with McIntosh the resting forward. This means that there might be a minor drop off in scoring for Goldstein but he should still average a premium amount for a ruckman. Will be a unique pick if you are brave/confident enough in it.

Buy 'Em
Jack Ziebell - Every year since his 2nd year a group of people get sucked in by him. This season I think that group will have the last laugh. Set for a breakout year in his fourth season and touted as a future leader of North he looks set to jump to elite status or close to it this season. Expect 90+ points and strongly consider as a unique pick.

Sam Gibson - Unlucky not to get promoted. The former Box Hill captain is a ball magnet but won’t play first up sadly. Expect to see him mid-season which is a positive anyway due to the fact he can be a much needed and reliable downgrade target. Let’s just hope he doesn’t turn into Cam Pedersen coming in and out of the side and strange times.

Bury 'Em
Cameron Richardson -  Became a permanent member of ‘Never picked for TBC again’ after last season where he played so infrequently it was just easier to carry him and hope he played. Hyped up beyond belief and failed to deliver in the most spectacular way possible. Do not expect him to feature this season and if you pick him click on the red cross in the top right of your screen.

Daniel Wells - No, I refuse to bury a player who had a breakout year and nearly died. Also the fact he is playing round 1 and looked good in his only showing during the preseason. Will maintain his average this season and considering what he is capable being a number 2 pick it is a big and foolish call to bury him.

Suggested Player
Hamish McIntosh -   I have no idea if he will be a ruck or forward this season but based on last season and the improvement in Goldstein I think he will be a forward who helps in the ruck. Not good for Fantasy prospects and with the options around for the ruck position there is much better value both rookies and premiums.
