SuperCoach Herald Sun's advice review - Sydney

Due to the week early start had to do them ahead of time. There isn't a lot here that you don't already know so this will be a short post. Happy SC'ing for 2012.

Every year the Herald Sun releases the little black book giving advice on who to buy and who to avoid. I will point out some of the ones they overlooked and errors they made while also offering my own suggestions. Of course I will praise the decisions that I agree with and why I agree with them.

Sydney

They just keep on going. Last season they won an away final against a limp St Kilda where they were predicted to struggle under new coach John Longmire who took over from the much loved Paul Roos. Although it is not widely known the Swans are developing an awesome midfield group which will be spearheaded by Tom Mitchell, Gary Rohan and Lewis Jetta while being under the guidance of Jarrad McVeigh. More games should be put into these youngsters and from a SuperCoach view that will be good if you can pick the big improver or if you pick up Tom Mitchell. Expect Swans to be a competition and SuperCoach powerhouse in seasons to come.

The Superstar
Shane Mumford - The bloke is a best last season being the 2nd ruckman behind Cox. The only knock about him is that he does not play 22 games due to suspension or freak occurrences. Once that happens along with natural progress look out. Could easily be the number 1 ruckman of 2012. Jump on.

Bank 'Em
Adam Goodes - Simply this man is a freak. Once over 30 you write most poeple off but Goodes is not one of those players. As such he should be strongly in consideration and at some stage during the season should wind up in your side. Never misses a game and is an SC specialist.

Ryan O'Keefe - Like Goodes, this man is a freak. Spends more time in the midfield though. Despite the slow start due to injury he will play and will be an upgrade target at some point during 2012. Expecting him to start slowly and be cheap after the bye. Strongly consider him if this happens. He is a proven performer.

Buy 'Em
Tom Walsh  - Although he had a dud of a preseason he can play as evidenced by St Kilda's effort to keep him and the Irish series. Also consider that he will be a mid season debut which means he is a great downgrade option. Don't let the preseason fool you, he will play at some point and be a valuable option.

Tom Mitchell Like Tom Walsh he will play. Granted he wont start early on due to lack of preseason and injuries but at junior level as an elite player. Would have been a very high draft pick but due to being a father-son selection can be picked up for minimum price. Expect him to play during the season and be a downgrade option.

Bury 'Em
Dan Hannebery - Coming back from an injury but awkwardly priced for the Guns-Rookies set up. To compound that he may start slow or have minimal growth and is a midfielder. Will be an awesome player but sadly awkwardly priced for this season.

Trent Dennis Lane - Talented but that is it. Shown very little and based on that it is hard to recommend. He will play during the season which goes for him but it will be at staggered intervals. You should not be picking him and odds are he will be offered as trade bait or delisted at the end of the season, especially if 2011 was anything to go by.
